The team at Chimneys for Africa received news of an incredible story that is demonstrating how the chimney is having a profound social impact, with images from the village of men sitting in the kitchens talking with their wives.
This rarely, if ever, happens due to the strong patriarchal nature of Maasai culture. When asked why they were sitting in there, the men replied that now the dwelling was free from smoke they were happy to sit and chat.
Natasha, the team’s anthropologist, was stunned to see it – during the 6 years she has worked with that community, she has never observed this occurrence.
